In the age of progress, many types of tipper vehicles have been developed, which are in use until today. One requirement for the use of a tipper is the bulk handling capability of the load to be transported. To name a few loads, there are grains and fertiliser, as well as sand and gravel as well as pet food and pellets. There are different types of tippers on the market, such as one side tippers (e.g. dumpers), two side tippers and three side tippers.

One side tipper – Example of a Dumper

The most common type of the one side tipper is the rear dumper. It is a design where mostly the sides and the front are firmly-connected with the dumping body and only the tail-gate of the rear dumper can be opened. Therefore, the bulk material is dumped backwards. These vehicles are mainly used in road construction or in freight transportation when unloading sites are easily accessible. You can find these kind of tippers, which are also called mining trucks among others in many larger versions, for example in mining and in stone pits. Mining trucks are, however, not approved for road traffic due to its size and weight from up to several hundred tons. The rear and front of the tail-gate of a two side tipper are mostly fixed and the bridge can only be dumped towards the left and the right. This type is as a matter of fact not common anymore.

Three Side Tipper

The three side tipper is the most common type of tipper to date. The bridge of a three side tipper can tip over backwards and also to the left and to the right. In general, you distinguish between vehicles without trailer which are equipped with a dumping-body that is firmly connected with the vehicle, tractor units - the so called semi-trailers - which are equipped with a tipper trailer, and for example tractors which trail a single-axle or multi-axle tipping trailer behind. These trailers and dumping-bodies are optional, depending on the bulk materials that need to be transported and also have to be appropriately covered in order to protect the load from humidity or from external factors. Moreover, in road construction you can find the so called tar boiler which heat up tar in the closed bridge and drain it off backwards. The three side tipper is quite popular.

In the early stages of commercial vehicle construction, the dumping-bodies had to be operated with muscle power, which meant that they were only operatable by means of cranks. In the course of time and development, pneumatic cylinders were used, which were later replaced by hydraulic drives. At the same time, the material has been developed which is used for the dumping bodies. The materials used reached from steel in the 1960s to aluminium. Steel and aluminium are used in equal measures until today, depending on the requirement for weight or durability of a tipper. The assembly of the tipping hydraulics depends on the design and may be located under the bridge as well as directly behind the cab. No matter if you need a used tipper or a new one. Tippers are a great help when transporting goods.

Moving Floor

Moving floor is also known as sliding or walking floor. It is a hydraulically-driven moving-floor conveyance system for moving material or palletized products. It can be used in a semi-trailer, loading dock or warehouse. Through the gapless design of the floor both piece and loose goods can be transported in an automatic way. The floor consists of movable lamellae which are moved by means of a hydraulic engine which transports the respective product into one direction or in the opposite direction. The advantage of moving floor trailers is its flexible field of application, due to the fact that both loose and piece goods can be carried. Together with a high requirement for utilisable volume from up to 100 m³, these vehicles are very suitable for the transport of bulky, light and loose goods. The loading can be carried out both sideways and through the rear of the trailer horizontally. For the operation of a moving floor trailer the vehicle needs a hydraulic pump as secondary drive. Furthermore, this system in automotive engineering also provides advantage in halls with a low ceiling height and also on soft grounds because goods can be unloaded without aid. During unloading the trailer does not have to be tipped.
